Babcock: Applying leadership behaviours to people and product safety
Babcock brought together their most senior leaders to consider their role, accountabilities and behaviours in managing both product and occupational safety risks.

The challenge
To embed a consistent safety leadership mindset throughout the most senior leadership teams in the business. Bringing clarity to accountabilities and influencing the right leadership behaviours to ensure all safety risks are effectively managed.
Our solution
We developed a one-day interactive workshop for leadership teams to discuss their role in managing both occupational and product safety risks in their area of the business.
Throughout the workshops, the teams reflected on their current approach to managing risk within complex work environments, explored practical tools to support their decision-making, and considered how their actions shape a strong safety culture.
The workshops enabled them to explore and discuss real people and product safety incidents, identify common themes that sat behind those incidents and agree what they can do to address those themes.
The session clarified their legal and leadership accountabilities for safety and drew on expert legal input provided by a partner consultancy specialising in health and safety law.
The sessions culminated in a mock court case, where Babcock leaders considered the potential impacts of leadership behaviours in a fictional incident, prepared Babcock’s defence and were cross examined by professional prosecution counsel.
The outcome
The workshops are being rolled out across Babcock during 2025.
