GSK: Engaging supervisors in reducing SIF events
GSK wanted to reduce incidents related to lack of supervision and complacency by 20% by the end of 2026. To support this goal, they wanted to improve Last Minute Risk Assessments (LMRAs) across their R&D sites.
The challenge
GSK had a tool to support supervisors to perform LMRAs with their teams before starting work, but it was not being consistently used. They asked us to support them in engaging supervisors and increasing the use and understanding of the tool to help prevent SIF events.
The outcome
The workshops are being successfully rolled out across GSK R&D Engineering Services.
Our solution
We developed a 30-minute F2F interactive workshop for HSE professionals to run with supervisors, with activities to engage them in:
- the importance of the supervisor role in safety
- why LMRAs matter
- a refresh of each element of the tool – recognising new hazards, identifying amplifiers and having the confidence to stop or pause work if things aren’t safe.
We also created scenario-based ‘safety moments’ to support supervisors in leading conversations with their teams on amplifiers, biases and stop work authority to reinforce and build confidence in the supervisor’s role in leading safety.
