Promoting diversity and inclusion
GSK: Raising awareness, driving advocacy and fostering a culture of accessibility and inclusion
Creating a culture where accessibility and inclusion are planned from the start, where everyone questions the potential impact, and is accommodating and willing to make changes that make a difference.
The challenge
GSK is committed to being a Disability Confident, accessible and inclusive workplace where people can be at their best, be safe, feel welcome, valued and included.
They believe in
- Accessibility and inclusion as vital to business success.
- Going beyond minimum requirements.
- Taking an industry-leading approach e.g. asking ‘what’ people need not ‘why’.
GSK wanted to raise awareness of their Workplace Adjustment and Accommodation Service (WAS); demonstrate their commitment to challenging attitudes, bias and behaviours and supporting people to fulfil their potential by introducing a mandatory Global Accessibility and Inclusion Standard that applies to all GSK employees and all contractors; and embed this standard through training to help people implement the new requirements.
Our solution
We developed an awareness campaign for the WAS which included a suite of ‘inclusion moments’ to aid understanding of key topics such as the use of language, why motion matters and being an inclusive leader.
Working with subject matter experts and leaders across the business, we drafted the Global Accessibility Inclusion Standard taking it from first draft to launch.
We continue to support GSK with the development of learning modules to help implementation covering key topics in the standard such as presenting and organising meetings and creating accessible content (e.g. print, digital, video, elearning etc).
The outcome
Increased awareness of the need to always consider people with disabilities and health conditions and improving knowledge on how to minimise negative impacts and drive a positive difference.
