Hitachi Rail: Refreshing and reinvigorating a global HSE strategy
Hitachi Rail is on a journey to a high reliability safety culture. BB&A supported them with developing their initial Be Safe strategy. It was time to refresh the strategy for the next three years.

The challenge
Three years into their Be Safe cultural journey, it was time for Hitachi Rail to take stock of their strategic priorities, realign with a changing business landscape and look ahead to plan for the next three years of HSE supporting business success.
Our solution
We developed and facilitated a three-day strategy development workshop to refresh and update Hitachi Rails Be Safe strategy.
The workshop brought together senior HSE colleagues from around the world to review progress over the last three years, to reaffirm the cultural ambition and direction for the business, share learning, and identify areas of weakness to focus on over the next three years
The sessions provided an opportunity for HSE colleagues to reflect on what their internal customers needed, and to agree on how we need to operate as a global HSE function in order to provide a trusted partner role to the business.
The workshops were fully interactive and conversation based, providing opportunities for HSE stakeholders with different perspectives and experiences to express their views and agree on the strategic priorities that aligned with business outcomes.
The output was a three-year strategy with clear priorities that is now being put into action across Hitachi Rail.
